2022 Workshop on Earth Observation for Ecosystem Accounting(EO4EA 2022)

The workshop on EO for Ecosystem Accounting is hosted by the European Space Agency in collaboration with the United Nations Statistics Division and GEO EO4EA.  The workshop will take place November 28 - December 1, 2022.  (Please find the website event page, details, and registration information here:  https://eo4ea-2022.esa.int)

 

This workshop will bring together experts in Earth Observation and experts in Ecosystem Accounting to jointly discuss the key challenges that need to be addressed in order to use Earth Observation in compiling national ecosystem accounts to support national policies. We will address the use of Earth Observation for ecosystem accounts in all realms, from terrestrial, freshwater, coastal to marine ecosystems. The aim of the workshop is to reinforce the importance of joining efforts to provide robust and cost-effective EO solutions that help countries develop and compile their ecosystem accounts.

2nd Climate Observation Conference

The conference will focus “on activities and solutions that help to achieve a fully implemented, sustainable, and fit-for-purpose global observing system for climate” and the outcomes will be an important input to UNFCCC COP27. Some sessions will focus on how GEO activities contribute to monitoring Essential Climate Variables (ECVs) and other essential variables on and for climate change mitigation and adaptation.

The seventeenth meeting of the UNCEEA will be held virtually, over two different days/sessions. A background note for each area of work will be made available in advance of the meeting, containing key questions for discussion during the meeting. All participants are asked to read the background notes in advance of the meeting and are encouraged to submit written responses in advance of the meeting.

It is our pleasure to invite you to join us for the GEO Earth Observation for Ecosystem Accounting (EO4EA) all-member meeting. As mentioned in our save the date note sent last month, the meeting with take place on June 8th

14.00 - 16.00 (GMT)

During this meeting, we will update the community on the latest developments from our initiative and the wider GEO world, including EO4EA plans for 2023-2025 and a brief review of the outcomes of the GEO Symposium.

This meeting will highlight "Data Standards and Interoperability", where we will explore the requirements of EO data applicable for accounting, and the data standards that are needed by the community to ensure that data and models are interoperable. This is a particularly important topic as countries around the world are developing ecosystem accounts and operationalizing the concepts outlined in the SEEA-Ecosystem Accounts.

We anticipate a fruitful discussion and look forward to your participation.

GEO Virtual Symposium 2022

The symposium theme is Global Action for Local Impact, and the event will focus on supporting the development of the 2023-2025 GEO Work Programme (GWP). The Nexus Sessions will engage GWP activities to contribute to integrative EO-based solutions for selected regions facing environmental and societal issues

The aim of the seminar is to provide a platform for exchange of knowledge and experiences on SEEA implementation and to facilitate coordination between all relevant partners in the OECD and UNECE regions. The seminar is organised regularly with a long-term view to support the implementation of the SEEA. All UNECE and OECD countries as well as other UN member countries can participate in the seminars. The seminar will be held with English-Russian interpretation.
